HSC pass rate falls slightly to 77.78%, Madrasah board leads with 93.40%
In 2024, a total of 1,331,058 students participated in the HSC and equivalent exams
The results of the 2024 Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations have been published, with a total pass rate of 77.78%.
The general education boards recorded a pass rate of 75.56%, while the madrasah and technical boards achieved significantly higher success rates of 93.40% and 88.09%, respectively.
The results were officially announced at 11am today (15 October) and were made available on the respective boards' websites as well as at educational institutions simultaneously.
This year, 145,911 students achieved GPA-5, including 64,978 boys and 80,933 girls. In 2023, the average pass rate across 11 boards was 78.64%, with 92,365 students achieving GPA-5.
A total of 1,331,058 students participated in the HSC and equivalent exams this year, comprising 666,013 boys and 665,045 girls. The pass rate for boys was 75.61%, while for girls it was 79.95%.
Among the nine general boards, Rajshahi recorded a pass rate of 81.24%, Barishal 81.85%, Sylhet 85.39%, Dhaka 79.21%, Dinajpur 77.56%, Cumilla 71.15%, Chattogram 70.32%, Jashore 64.29%, and Mymensingh had the lowest pass rate at 63.22%.
In the Alim examination under the Madrasah Education Board, the pass rate increased significantly to 93.40%, up from last year's 90.75%.
A total of 85,558 students from 2,683 madrasahs participated in this year's Alim examination, with 79,909 students passing, including 42,793 boys and 37,116 girls.
The number of madrasah students achieving the highest grade, GPA-5, also rose, with 9,613 students earning GPA-5 this year compared to 7,097 last year and 9,423 in 2022.
However, 65 educational institutions across the country recorded zero pass rates in the HSC and equivalent examinations. This number has increased from 42 institutions in 2023 and 50 in 2022.
A total of 1,331,058 students sat for this year's exams from 9,187 institutions.
The highest number of failing institutions was found under the Dinajpur Education Board, which had 20 institutions with a 100% failure rate. Other boards also reported zero pass rates, including eight institutions in Dhaka, 12 in Rajshahi, four in Cumilla, seven in Jashore, five in Chattogram, and four in Mymensingh. Notably, no institutions under the Sylhet and Barishal boards recorded zero pass rates.
Additionally, two institutions under the Madrasah Education Board and three under the Technical Education Board also had zero pass rates.
On a brighter note, a total of 1,388 educational institutions achieved a 100% pass rate this year. Among these, 57 institutions belong to the Dhaka Education Board, 35 to Rajshahi, 10 to Cumilla, 13 to Jashore, 13 to Chattogram, 21 to Barishal, 8 to Sylhet, 15 to Dinajpur, and five to Mymensingh.
Furthermore, 961 institutions under the Madrasah Education Board and 250 under the Technical Education Board also recorded 100% pass rates. Last year, the number of educational institutions achieving this feat was 953.
The HSC and equivalent exams commenced on 30 June, with a total of 1,450,790 students originally registered. However, after eight days of exams, all tests scheduled for 18 July were postponed due to the student-led quota reform movement across the country.
Before the remaining exams were cancelled, they were delayed multiple times in August and September by both the previous government and the interim government during and after the mass uprising. Ultimately, the results were published using the subject mapping method.
