Closing parade of 40th BCS police officers suspended in Rajshahi
The graduation parade of the 40th BCS (Police) batch, scheduled to be held at the Bangladesh Police Academy in Sardah, Rajshahi, has been cancelled due to unavoidable circumstances, according to a press release from Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP).
The event was supposed to take place today, with Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury expected to attend as the chief guest.
"Due to unavoidable circumstances, the graduation parade for the 40th BCS [Police] batch will not be held. However, the Home Affairs Advisor will hold a press briefing at 1pm [on Sunday] at the RMP headquarters," said RMP's additional deputy police commissioner (media).
Earlier, Salahuddin Ammar, coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement at Rajshahi University, rejected the invitation to the event.
In a Facebook post, he wrote, "These 62 ASPs were recruited during Hasina's tenure. It is no secret how scrutinised the BCS [Police] recruitment process was. Personally, I am not inclined to attend this programme. Have these individuals been investigated properly?"
He further wrote, "The police force has not been reformed yet. The criminals have not been apprehended. Therefore, I cannot betray the blood of the martyrs by legitimising the Awami fascists. I am a simple person, but my ethics are clear. Until justice is served for my martyred brothers Ali Raihan, Sakib Anjum, and others, I will not accept any government invitation."
