High Court seeks update on Imran torture case
The court has also sought update on the physical condition of the college student who lost both of his kidneys due to police torture
The High Court on Tuesday directed the Jashore Superintendent of Police to provide an update on the progress in Imran Hossain's case who was allegedly beaten up by some police officials.
The virtual bench of Justice JBM Hassan passed the order after hearing a writ petition on the day.
Barrister Humayun Kabir Pallab and Mohammad Kawshar represented the writ petitioner, while Deputy Attorney General Samarendra Nath Biswas represented the state.

The court has also sought update on the physical condition of the college student who lost both of his kidneys due to police torture.
The Civil Surgeon of Jashore has been asked to submit a report regarding this.
The court directed the Jashore Superintendent of Police to submit the report of the police investigation into the case on June 28.
On June 18, two lawyers filed a writ petition with the High Court. The writ petition sought a judicial inquiry into the incident of torture, treatment and payment of expenses and directions for appropriate compensation.
Besides, a request was made to issue a rule why the incident of police torture should not be declared illegal.
The home ministry secretary, Jashore superintendent of police, Jashore chief judicial magistrate, inspector general of police, officer-in-charge of Jashore Kotwali Police Station and civil surgeon were named as respondents.
According to the writ petition, Imran Hossain, a college student from Shahbazpur village in Sadar upazila of Jashore district, was tortured by police at Sajiali police outpost on June 8. As a result, both of his kidneys were damaged.
On the next day (June 9), reports over the incident were published in various newspapers. Imran is currently undergoing treatment at Queen's Hospital in Jashore.
