First Chattogram doctor to receive plasma therapy dies of 'lung complications'

The first doctor to receive plasma therapy in Chattogram has died of 'lung complications'.
Dr Samirul Islam Babu died at Chattogram Metropolitan Hospital on Wednesday afternoon, the hospital's General Manager Md Selim confirmed.
Dr Samirul, from Barishal, was an associate professor of orthopedics at Chattogram Medical College.
Md Selim said, "Dr Samirul Islam was undergoing treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital for about a month. On May 31, he tested negative for coronavirus for the second time."
"But he had lung complications and was treated there. He was brought to the Metropolitan Hospital 10 days ago. He died while undergoing treatment here," he added.
Dr Samirul Islam was the first Covid-19 patient in Chattogram to be given plasma therapy. However, not only plasma therapy, but all the methods discussed in the treatment of Covid-19 have been applied for his treatment, said doctors at the hospital, adding that he was on ventilation when he died.
Aniruddha Ghosh, professor of medicine at Chattogram Medical College, said, "Samirul's coronavirus test on May 31 came out negative. But there was a risk with his lung function. As far as I know, he has not been tested for coronavirus since then."
