Govt plans to build stadiums in 220 upazilas after July martyrs’ names: Asif

Some 220 stadiums will be built in as many upazilas across the country and they will be named after the July revolution martyrs of that upazila, said Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan today (16 November).
He made the announcement was addressing the inaugural ceremony of the "Shaheed Farhan Faiyaaz Playground" for the physically challenged on the west side of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban in Dhaka.
Asif said that the price of sacrifice and blood of those who were martyred in the July uprising will never be paid. "But we are trying to show as much respect as we can."
Announcing stadiums will be built in 220 upazilas across the country, he said the interim government has taken a policy decision that these stadiums will be named after the martyrs of that upazila.
The school textbooks that would come in the 2025 academic year would have the heroic stories of the July uprising martyrs, the adviser added.
He said the government has a plan to highlight the valour of the martyrs in the textbooks so that future generations can remember the July uprising and the education ministry is spearheading the effort.
Md Anwar Ullah, secretary of the Parliament Secretariat, was present as a special guest at the event presided over by Youth and Sports Secretary Rezaul Makshud Zahedi.
Family members of Farhan Faiyaaz, who was a student of Dhaka Residential Model College, including his father Shahidul Islam Bhuiyan, mother Farhana Diba and younger sister were present on the occasion as guests of honour.
