Three footballers from Satkhira who led their team to victory in the Saff Women's Championship for the second consecutive time were given a grand reception in their hometown today (21 November).
The district sports association organised the programme at the district's Shilpakala Academy auditorium.
Deputy Commissioner Mostak Ahmed presided over the event, which was attended by the Superintendent of Police Monirul Islam, and representatives from various sports organisations and other sectors.
During the ceremony, Mostak Ahmed presented the team captain Sabina Khatun, and her teammates, Mashura Parvin and Afida Khandaker Pranti, with a cash prize of Tk1 lakh each and a crest.
He said, "Achieving such glory is not easy. Sabina, Mashura, and Pranti know how hard they have worked to reach this point. Their achievements have brought honour to the country."
Sabina Khatun said, "There are hundreds of athletes in Satkhira who represent the country at the national level in various events. However, there are no facilities for women's sports in the district.
"The current stadium is never utilised for women's tournaments or training sessions. Aspiring footballers like us need access to such facilities to develop future talent," she added.
