The chief selector thanked the board president, Nazmul Hasan Papon, for the guts he showed to arrange the tournament. He also mentioned the tournament would not be possible if the president had not dared to arrange the tournament despite all the shortcomings.
Cricket has resumed through the BCB President's Cup after a long break due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Three teams - Najmul XI, Mahmudullah XI, and Tamim XI - played among each other in a round-robin format. After six matches, the final between Mahmudullah XI and Najmul XI took place today. The Bangladesh Cricket Board's (BCB) chief selector Akram Khan spoke to the press today. He said the tournament would not have taken place if the board president hadn't shown the guts.
Akram Khan said that the tournament has been so far so good. Despite most of the experienced players, especially the batsmen, could not perform well enough throughout the tournament, Akram Khan did think it was quite normal as players returned to cricket after a long break. He, however, found positives from the youngsters' performance in the tournament.
"It is quite normal that some players could not live up to the expectation, they came back from a long break, it can happen. But some of the young players did exceptionally well, we can take positives from that," Akram Khan said.
The chief selector thanked the board president, Nazmul Hasan Papon, for the guts he showed to arrange the tournament. He also mentioned the tournament would not be possible if the president had not dared to arrange the tournament despite all the shortcomings.
"By the grace of the Almighty, we have successfully arranged this tournament. I have to thank the board president for the guts he showed, it would not have been possible without him. After this, we will be looking to resume domestic cricket which will eventually pave the way for the return of international cricket," Akram further said.
Akram Khan also said the Windies series is confirmed till now. And BCB is still planning on the T20 league that is supposed to happen next month.
In the final, Mahmudullah XI are chasing down the target of 164 runs set by the Najmul XI. They are well set in the drivers' seat.
