Another day and another controversy mars the DPL; this time involving the pitch curator
Shinepukur Cricket Club, the side that lost by one run (DLS method) against Brothers Union, accused the pitch curator of BKSP-3 of delaying to cover the pitch while it was raining.
Days after Shakib Al Hasan hogged the limelight for negative reasons, another controversy has broken out in the ongoing Dhaka Premier League. This time the allegation is directed towards the pitch curator.
Shinepukur Cricket Club, the side that lost by one run (DLS method) against Brothers Union, accused the pitch curator of BKSP-3 of delaying to cover the pitch while it was raining.
Rain got heavier and the umpires called the groundsmen to bring the covers on when Brothers Union needed 19 off 12 balls to win. They were one run ahead of the DLS par score at that stage.
Questions arose when play didn't resume even after the stoppage of rain. It was learnt that the pitch was too wet to continue the proceedings. Shinepukur alleged that the pitch curator Nuruzzaman delayed to cover the pitch and that was the reason behind the state of the pitch.
Nuruzzaman denied the allegation, saying, "The proceedings continued for a while despite the rain. When the umpires called us to bring the covers, we covered the pitch as quickly as we could. Still it took a bit of time. The umpires didn't want to restart after rain stopped. This wasn't my decision."
Shinepukur coach Talha Jubayer was seen talking to the curator and match officials for a long time after the match. When asked about it, Jubayer refused to comment.
