Fans jeer, but Litton Das finds solace in team support
A section of the crowd jeered, calling him "Litton, fake," and though Litton bravely held his gaze towards them, his eyes betrayed a sense of helplessness.
The match between Dhaka Capitals and Fortune Barishal at Chattogram's Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium witnessed a striking moment. While Dhaka was fielding to defend their target, Litton Das was positioned near the boundary.
Hearing his name from the crowd, Litton turned to look, only to be met with jeers of "Litton, fake" from a section of the spectators.
Although visibly disheartened, Litton showed courage, holding his gaze towards the crowd for several moments. A video of this incident from last Thursday's match quickly went viral on social media.
Despite his bold stance, Litton's helplessness was evident in his expression. The right-handed batsman, who had scored a stunning century in the previous match, was clearly affected by this unexpected ordeal. Litton chose silence, seemingly trying to swallow the bitter experience.
However, his team, Dhaka Capitals, was far from silent. They took to social media to express their unwavering support for their wicketkeeper-batsman, posting a heartfelt message.
Litton was deeply moved by this gesture from his team. Sharing Dhaka's post on his verified Facebook page, he wrote, "I am truly touched by the incredible spirit of my team, Dhaka Capitals. Thank you to everyone who supports me and all athletes during tough times. Your faith means the world to us."
The post that inspired Litton's emotional message read: "You may see someone being jeered in a blurry video, but we see a national hero who smashed the fastest century in BPL history and was part of a record-breaking partnership."
The post continued, "You see criticism, but we see a star batsman who holds the record for the highest individual ODI score for the country and the highest Test batting ranking by a Bangladeshi batsman. You see obstacles, we see the creator of historic moments. Litton, you are a symbol of our love and pride." Accompanying the message was a collage of Litton's iconic innings celebrations, captioned with Dhaka's declaration: "We stand with Litton."
In the very match where Litton faced the crowd's hostility, his performance with the bat fell short, managing just 13 runs off 17 balls, including two boundaries.
However, in the previous game in Sylhet, he had delivered an unbeaten 125 off 55 balls, smashing 10 fours and 9 sixes. The match before that also saw a stellar knock of 73 runs off 43 balls, featuring 10 boundaries and a six.
Before these remarkable performances, Litton had endured a prolonged slump in form, failing to score in any format for the national team. He also struggled in his first four BPL matches, amassing only 42 runs across four innings.
