Rishad set to represent Hobart Hurricanes in Big Bash league
With this selection, Rishad becomes only the second Bangladeshi cricketer to feature in the BBL, following Shakib Al Hasan, who previously played for Adelaide Strikers in 2014 and Melbourne Renegades in 2015.
Bangladeshi leg-spinner Rishad Hossain has been selected by Hobart Hurricanes for the upcoming edition of Australia's T20 tournament, the Big Bash League (BBL).
The Hobart-based team announced the signing on their official social media channels, stating: "Bangladeshi Tiger has joined the Hurricanes! Welcome to Rishad Hossain, an exciting young leg-spinner who will take BBL|14 by storm!"
Rishad was picked from the fourth round of the Big Bash draft held in Sydney, and he now has the opportunity to play under the guidance of Ricky Ponting, Tasmania's most renowned cricketer and the Head of Strategy for the Hurricanes.
Rishad expressed his eagerness to play under Ponting's leadership, noting it as a significant opportunity in his budding career.
However, Rishad's participation in the upcoming Big Bash season, scheduled to take place from 15th December this year to 27th January next year, is contingent on receiving a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).
The timing of the BBL clashes with both the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) and the national team's tour of the West Indies, raising questions about his availability for the Australian tournament.
Despite this uncertainty, Rishad is optimistic about making his mark in the BBL, where the Hurricanes will aim to claim their first title after reaching the final twice in previous editions.
Rishad rose to prominence following an impressive performance in the T20 World Cup this year, where he took 14 wickets, further solidifying his reputation as a promising talent in the international cricket scene.
Should all go according to plan, Rishad will look to follow in the footsteps of Shakib and represent Bangladesh on the big stage of the Big Bash League.
