TK50 lakh reward announced for the Youth Asia Cup winning team
The Ministry of Youth and Sports, along with the National Sports Council (NSC), has announced a reward of Tk50 lakh for the Bangladesh team for winning the Asia Cup.
Bangladesh participated in the Under-19 Asia Cup as the defending champions, aiming to lift the trophy once again. The young Tigers fulfilled that aspiration by defeating India in the final to claim the title for the second consecutive time. In recognition of this remarkable achievement, the youth team players are set to receive a substantial financial reward.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports, along with the National Sports Council (NSC), has announced a reward of 50 lakh Taka for the Bangladesh team for winning the Asia Cup. This announcement was made in a statement by the NSC on Monday.
While such examples were rare in the past, many organisations, including the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the NSC, have started awarding financial prizes to victorious teams following political shifts. Last month, the victorious SAFF-winning women's football team was awarded 1 crore Taka each by the same bodies.
Recently, the Bangladesh Under-21 hockey team was rewarded 20 lakh Taka by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the NSC for qualifying for the Junior Hockey World Cup. Now, an even larger prize has been announced for the Under-19 cricket team.
In this year's Youth Asia Cup final, Bangladesh convincingly defeated India. After setting a target of 198 runs, Bangladesh bowled India out for just 139 runs, securing a resounding 69-run victory and celebrating their second consecutive title. These two titles are Bangladesh's only victories in this competition, while India has won the trophy a record eight times.
