Veteran hockey coach Fazlul Haque passes away
The former hockey star leaves behind his wife and daughter, as well as a large number of students and supporters.
Veteran hockey coach Fazlul Haque, well known as Ostad Fazlul among his students and in the hockey community, died Wednesday morning in Dhaka.
He fell at home in the morning and injured his left shoulder.
Fazlu was transported to Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital, where physicians pronounced him dead, according to one of his nephews.
The former hockey star leaves behind his wife and daughter, as well as a large number of students and supporters.
After leaving his playing career early due to an injury, Fazlu Haque dedicated himself to converting schoolchildren become hockey players at the renowned Armanitola High School in the early 1990s.
He has since helped shape the careers of several of Bangladesh's best players, including Rafikul Islam Kamal, Rasel Mahmud Jimmy, Maksud Alam Habul, and others.
He will be laid to rest at the family graveyard in Shaheb Bazar this evening, following a namaz-e-janaza at the Tara Masjid after Asr prayers.
