Even though the rape reform has finally come about in Bangladesh the government has never before passed any laws before to for any compensation to the victims.
Even then there are a few cases of compensation in rape cases but those reliefs were sought for in writ jurisdiction, something that is not affordable or convenient to mass people as most victims do not even take their cases to courts.
India however, under the National Legal Services Authority scheme passed the law that a rape survivor will get a mandatory minimum compensation of Rs 4 lakh and, in case of gang rape Rs 5 lakh.
Likewise, the United Kingdom's Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA) sets out 37 different tariffs of compensation for sexual assault.
Compensation following a rape attack can be awarded for personal injury and mental trauma under the scheme.
The average compensation could be around £11,000 but higher sums are payable if one has suffered more than one assault or has a serious disabling mental health condition.
