1 dead, 37 injured as bus carrying groom’s party falls into roadside ditch in Faridpur

One person was killed and 37 others injured after a bus carrying a groom's party lost control, fell into a roadside ditch and overturn at Nagarkanda Upazila in Faridpur last night (14 February).
The accident happened at the upazila's Vobokudia area on Faridpur-Bhanga highway at around 10:30pm, said police.
The deceased was identified as Mukti Das, 45, wife of late Dilu Kumar Das from Rajbari Sadar upazila.
Fire Service and highway police officials rescued and took the injured to Faridpur Medical College Hospital and Bhanga Upazila Health Complex.
Bhanga highway police station Sub-Inspector Md Mamun said, "The bus lost control and fell into the ditch at Bhobokudia area in Nagarkanda Upazila while coming to Faridpur from Barishal."
"The victims went to attend a wedding in Barishal from Binodpur under Rajbari's Goalanda upazila and the accident happened when they were returning. We are assuming that the accident happened due to a mechanical problem with the bus," he added.
The SI further said there were 220 people riding on three buses and one microbus.
"There were 50 people on the bus which was affected by the accident. Most of them have been injured. The seriously injured ones have been admitted into hospital, where those who have sustained minor injuries have received primary treatment," the police official further said.
Locals said they went to the spot after hearing a massive sound after finishing their prayers on the occasion of Shab-e-Barat.
Reaching the spot, the locals found the bus in a gorge. They quickly started rescuing people and informed police about the matter, said locals.
