3 jailed over breaking nests, killing 150 baby weaver birds
The land owner claimed that the birds were eating his boro paddies
A mobile court in Pirojpur's Indurkani upazila has jailed three people in connection with breaking nests and killing more than hundreds of baby weaver birds.
Executive Magistrate Ashok Kumar Chakma conducted a mobile court in the South Bhabanipur area of Indurkani upazila on Monday afternoon.
The magistrate said, "Lutfar Rahman, a farmer from South Bhabanipur area of Indurkani upazila, was sentenced to 15-day, Sunil Bepari to 7-day and Sunil Mistri to 3-day in jail under the Wildlife Conservation Act for breaking the nests and killing baby weaver birds."
Hemayet Hossain, the land owner claimed that the birds were eating his boro paddies from the land and he was furious about the issue, according to the locals.
On his instruction, his brother Lutfar Rahman and his men broke the weaver nests in the palm trees beside the boro paddy land.
They killed more than 150 baby weaver birds by torching and downing them.
