5 petrol pumps fined Tk1.8 lakh for short-selling customers
Two separate mobile court drives issued the fines in the Mirpur, Gabtali and Gazipur Sadar areas
The Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) and the district administration of Gazipur have issued fines totalling Tk1.85 lakh, to five petrol pumps, for weighing and measuring fraud.
Two separate mobile court drives – led by Muhammad Amimul, BSTI executive magistrate, and Masudur Rahman, executive magistrate at the Gazipur Deputy Commissioner;s Office – imposed the fines in the Mirpur, Gabtali and Gazipur Sadar areas.
At the same time, the mobile courts also lodged cases against the petrol pumps for such fraudulent activities.

BSTI sources said that a fine of Tk50,000 was issued to Messers Nur Diesel Pump at Kotbari in Mirpur for providing 590 ml less oil per 10 litres.
Also, a fine of Tk50,000 was issued to Messers Denso Filling Station, in the same area, for not having an updated calibration chart for four underground storage tanks.
Messrs Riyadh & Co CNG filling station in Gazipur was providing 340, 300 and 290 ml less oil per five litres of one octane and two diesel-dispensing units, respectively. So, the mobile court fined that pump Tk60,000.
Additionally, Messrs Union Trading Corporation, in Gazipur, was fined Tk10,000 for not having an updated calibration chart ofor two diesel underground storage tanks.
Messers Mukul Filling Station was fined Tk10,000 for not updating its calibration chart for three underground storage tanks.
Moreover, Messrs BS Traders (a rod shop), in Wireless area of Gazipur, was also fined Tk5,000 for not having a 500 kilogramme digital scale verification certificate.
