Alcohol poisoning kills another girl in Faridpur
This marks the third death due to reported consumption of alcohol in Faridpur within two days
A 17-year-old girl died after reportedly consuming toxic alcohol in Faridpur's Charbhadrasan upazila.
This is the third such death in the district within two days.
The deceased, Swapna Bawali, was a tenth-grade student at Char Ajodhya High School and a resident of Char Ajodhya village in Gazirtek Union, Charbhadrasan Police Station
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Gaffar told The Business Standard.
"Preliminary investigation suggests that Swapna died from excessive alcohol consumption," he said.
According to her family, Swapna died at 8:30pm on Sunday (13 October) while receiving treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical College Hospital in Faridpur.
"An unnatural death case has been filed with the police station over the incident. Swapna's body has been sent to the morgue at Faridpur Medical College Hospital for an autopsy. Further action will be taken after the investigation," said OC Gaffar.
According to family sources, on Saturday evening (12 October), Swapna went out with her elder sister Susmita to visit a Durga Puja mandap. They returned home around 10:30pm, had dinner, and went to bed.
The following day, Swapna fell sick. When the family enquired about the reason, she admitted to consuming alcohol.
Later, she was admitted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead."
Earlier, two students of Government Rajendra College, Puja Biswas, 20, and Ratna Saha,24, died after falling ill from drinking alcohol in Alipur, Faridpur.
