Another accident at GPH factory, 3 workers burnt
Earlier on September 22, seven people, including an Indian worker, were burnt in another accident at the GPH steel factory
At least three workers suffered burn injuries when molten iron fell on them while working at GPH Ispat factory in Chattogram.
The incident took place at GPH Ispat Ltd, a steel factory in Sultana Mandir area of Sitakunda on Monday.
The injured workers - Abu Sayeed, 37, Shimul Das, 29, Mofizur Rahman, 27 - have been admitted to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) with various degrees of burn.
Alauddin Talukdar, assistant sub-inspector of CMCH police outpost told The Business Standard that the injured were currently being treated at CMCH's burn unit.
Dr Liton Kuman Palit, assistant registrar at the CMCH burn unit said, "Among the three, throats of Abu Sayeed and Shimul Das have been severely burnt. But, Mofizur Rahman's condition is quite good."
Subhankar Datta, labour inspector (Health), Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments said. "So far, neither the trade union nor the factory authorities informed us about the accident."
"However, we went to inspect the factory before when workers were killed in an accident. They were then given a show-cause notice," added the labour inspector.
Earlier on September 22, seven people, including an Indian worker, were burnt in another accident at the GPH steel factory.
Before that 11 more workers were burnt in a furnace blast accident at the GPH Ispat in 2017.
