Another life cut short by reckless driving
The reckless driver first rammed a lamp post
Nazmul Hassan dropped her wife Farha Naz by a motorbike at Mohakhali on Thursday morning. Farha then crossed the road adjacent to Chairmanbari-Amtoli Flyover and was about to step on the pavement.
She did not see the minibus of Cantonment Service coming at a high speed. The reckless driver first rammed a lamp post. A youth standing there jumped off having seen the speeding vehicle. However, Farha’s reflex was not as fast.
After hitting another pole, the bus hit Farha, hurling her on the road. Farha, 28, was severely hurt in the head.
Pedestrians rushed a critically injured Farha to Kurmitola Medical College Hospital. On-duty doctors pronounced her dead.
Farha Naz was an administrative officer at an NGO. She got married with government employee Nazmul Hassan four years ago. The couple, with their one-year-old daughter, had been living in Mirpur area.
Police seized the bus and towed it to the Banani police station. However, they could not detain the driver and helper as they had fled the scene soon after the accident.
Banani police SI Afzal Hossen said the killer driver was identified as Shamim Mia.
A case was filed against the driver and bus owner with the police station. The dead body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
