Beximco Ceramics fire: 1 dies after a week in hospital
A person has died in the hospital after sustaining burn injuries in an explosion that occurred while repairing an LPG gas line at Beximco Group's Sainpukur Ceramics Factory in the Kashimpur area of Gazipur on 12 October.
The deceased was identified as Md Abu Raihan, 32. He died while undergoing treatment at the Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute in Dhaka yesterday (17 October), Md Zahidul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kashimpur police station, confirmed today.
Abu Raihan is the son of Md Rezaul Karim, who also suffered burn injuries in the same incident and is undergoing treatment at the same hospital.
He also said that the father of the deceased filed an unnatural death case at Kashimpur police station following the death.
On 12 October, six people suffered burns in an explosion and subsequent fire at the Shinepukur Ceramic Factory, owned by Beximco Group, in the Kashimpur area of Gazipur, while carrying out LPG cylinder repair works.
The injured were admitted to the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka later that night, confirmed Abdullah Al Arefin, deputy assistant director of Gazipur Fire Service and Civil Defence.
The injured were identified as Md Rahat, 32, Abu Raihan, 32, Rezaul, 55, Rupom, 25, Tanvir, 37, and Md Faruk, 55. None of them are employees of Shinepukur Ceramic. They went to the factory to repair gas cylinders on a contractual basis, said Abdullah.
Citing the emergency department doctors at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, Dhaka Medical College Hospital police outpost in-charge Md Faruk said Rupom sustained 6% flame burns, Rezaul 2%, Tanvir 16%, Faruk 21%, Abu Raihan 44%, and Rahat 15%.
