Bank accounts of Menon, Momtaz frozen
The accounts of the family members and associates of both former MPs have also been frozen
The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) has ordered banks to freeze the accounts of Bangladesh Workers Party President and former member of parliament (MP) Rashed Khan Menon and popular singer and former Awami League MP Momtaz Begum.
In a letter, BFIU instructed to freeze their accounts for 30 days. Additionally, the accounts of the family members and associates of both Menon and Momtaz have also been frozen.
Issuing the directive under Section 23(1)(c) of the Money Laundering Prevention Act, BFIU has also ordered banks to cancel the use of any locker facility under the names of Menon and Momtaz.
Furthermore, within two days, banks have been asked to submit account information, KYC, account opening forms and updated transaction details for any accounts in the names of Menon and his associated entities and Momtaz and her associated individuals and entities she owns.
