Case filed over looting Tk7 lakh at Sonali Bank in Gazipur
A case has been filed over looting Tk7 lakh after hacking and firing shots at two officials of the state-owned Sonali Bank and two Ansar members in Gazipur.
Sonali Bank's Gazipur court building branch Assistant General Manager Md Shahiduzzaman filed the case against 10-12 unidentified individuals.
Gazipur Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner (crime) Nazir Ahmed confirmed this to The Business Standard this (30 September) evening.
He said due to the high number of accused listed in the complaint (exceeding five), the case has been registered as a robbery, even though the actual crime was a theft.
The bank officials stated yesterday that the amount stolen was Tk8 lakh.
The incident took place on the Rajbari-Sadar hospital road in Rathkhola area of the city yesterday (29 September) when the bank officials and Ansar members were coming to the main branch of the bank on an auto-rickshaw with cash from the sub-branch.
"Twelve persons on six motorcycles stopped the auto-rickshaw and threatened them with firearms and sharp weapons. While trying to snatch away the money bag, the robbers hacked them. They randomly fired shots and then ran away with the bag containing Tk8 lakh," said Sonali Bank's Gazipur court building branch Assistant General Manager Md Shahiduzzaman.
