High Court issues rule over Carmichael College student council election
No student council election was held at the Carmichael College in the past 28 years
The High Court today issued a rule asking why the inaction of Rangpur's Carmichael College authorities regarding the student council election should not be declared illegal.
A bench comprised of justices M Enayetur Rahim and Md Khairul Alam issued the rule directing the education secretary, National University's vice chancellor and registrar, Carmichael College's principal and vice-principal to explain the issue within the next four weeks.
No student council election was held at the Carmichael College in the past 28 years.
Barrister AH Imam Hasan stood for the writ in the hearing, while Deputy Attorney General Amit Das Gupta represented the state.
On August 30, five students of the college filed a writ seeking a student council election.
More than 25,000 students study at the Carmichael College and previous student council election was organized back in 1990.
