15 Hizb ut-Tahrir members placed on remand
Chattogram police detained them while conducting drives at different areas of the port city from Friday night to Saturday morning
A Chattogram court on Saturday placed 15 members of the banned militant outfit Hizb ut-Tahrir, including its port city regional chief on remand in a case filed over their alleged involvement in terrorism.
Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Saleh Mohammad Noman passed the order after the members were produced before the court.
"Hizb ut-Tahrir regional chief Mohammad Ershad Alam was taken on a five-day remand, while 14 others were taken on a three-day remand each after we produced them in court with a ten-day remand plea," Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Mohsin told The Business Standard.

The detainees are - Chattogram regional chief and teacher of a private English medium school Mohammad Ershad Alam, Nazmul, Lokman, Mahfuz, Imtiaz, Karim, Abdullah Monayem, Kamrul Hasan, Ajim Uddin, Ariful Islam, Rafi, Ajimul Huda, Nasir, Mostafa Akbar Chowdhury and Alauddin.

A case was later lodged against them with Kotwali Police Station under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
Hizb ut-Tahrir was banned in South Asian nations in 2009 for carrying out anti-state and anti-democratic activities.
