3 detained with yaba tablets worth Tk1.48cr in Bandarban
The detainees are Md Rashid, Lutfur Rahman and Sayed Alam
Bandarban police detained three drug peddlers with 49, 565 pieces of contraband yaba tablets worth Tk1.48 crore from Ghumdhum area under Naikhongchhari upazila on Saturday.
The detainees are Md Rashid and Lutfur Rahman, sons of Mukbul Sobhan, and Sayed Alam, son of Mir Kashem. They are residents of the area.
"We got a tip-off that a gang of drug peddlers has brought here a consignment of yaba tablets from Myanmar. Later we conducted a drive and detained the trio with yaba tablets. However, sensing the presence of police, one of the peddlers fled the scene.
Our drive is underway to nab that peddler," Alamgir Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Naikhongchhari police station, told The Business Standard.
"The peddlers received the yaba tablets on Bangladesh-Myanmar border from the traders of Myanmar. Usually they sell it to the Bangladeshi local traders," said the OC.
A case was filed against them under the Narcotics Control Act, he added.
