An accused in a theft case on Sunday escaped from police custody in front of the jail in Bagerhat.
In the afternoon, Hafizur Rahman alias Shipon, 29, shoved policemen away and fled the Bagerhat court police jail.

"Hafizur Rahman faces at least 15 cases on charges," said Iqbal Bahar Chowdhury, officer-in-charge of Mongla Police Station.
Bagerhat Additional Superintendent of Police Mir Shafin Mahmud said, "At the end of his remand, he pushed the police and escaped while opening his handcuffs before entering the jail."
Police have immediately launched an operation to arrest him.
