Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh has fired two top officials of the city corporation on his second day as mayor.
The fired officials are Additional Chief Engineer Md Asaduzzaman and Chief Revenue Officer Yousuf Ali Sarder.
Newly appointed Secretary of Dhaka South City Corporation Akramuzzaman confirmed the matter to The Business Standard this evening.
"Both of them have been terminated. According to the city corporation's regulations, it can fire anyone at any time after paying three months' salary," he said, adding that there were lots of allegations of malpractice against the officials.
The newly elected mayor fired the officials after announcing his strict stance against corruption.
Yusuf Ali Sarder was the deputy chief revenue officer of Dhaka South City Corporation. The former mayor Sayeed Khokon entrusted him with the additional duty of chief revenue officer for a long time. There were many allegations of corruption against this officer and the Anti-Corruption Commission started an enquiry against him earlier this year.
The suspension order for Yusuf Ali Sarder stated that he was terminated for the interest of the public. He was advised to collect 90 days' salary from the accounts department of DSCC.
