Fuel crisis in Khulna worsens as tank lorry workers continue strike
Octane stock is exhausted, petrol and diesel will run out soon
Tank lorry workers in Khulna division continued their work abstention for a third consecutive day today, demanding the release of Ali Azam, general secretary of Khulna Divisional Tank-Lorry Sramik Union.
Many petrol pumps in Khulna are running out of fuel as the workers halted fuel collection and distribution from depots, affecting supply across 16 districts.
"Our octane stock is exhausted, and petrol and diesel will run out soon," said Messrs KCC Petroleum Pump employee Dheeman.
Ali Azim was arrested on Sunday in connection with a 21 August sabotage case.
Khulna city Detective Branch Officer-in-Charge Taimur Islam said Ali Azam is an identified accused in the Khalishpur BNP office vandalism case and was detained with the help of locals.
Padma, Meghna, and Jamuna oil depots in Khulna's Khalishpur have suspended operations, leaving workers vowing to continue their protest until the release of Ali Azim.
Enam Munshi, president of the Khulna Divisional Tank Lorry Workers' Union, said nine of their members, including four current leaders and five former members, have been accused in the case involving the vandalism of the BNP office on 21 August.
He affirmed the strike would persist until all accused members were released.
