Fulfil responsibilities with honesty, devotion: ACC chairman
He made the remarks at a virtual discussion meeting on the occasion of the 50th Victory Day
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Dr Iqbal Mahmud has urged officials to discharge their duties with honesty, devotion and sincerity as well as to refrain from acquiring wealth by illegal means.
"Those for whom you leave wealth may not be able to enjoy it. People will eat property; insects will eat the body," he said at a virtual discussion on the occasion of the 50th Victory Day on Wednesday, says a press release.
At the programme, the ACC chief expressed deep respect to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, martyrs of the war of liberation, women who were tortured during the war, freedom fighters and the four national leaders.
Terming the overall activities of the ACC as a team work, he said everyone from solider to chairman should perform their duties with devotion.
If everyone performs their duties with honesty, devotion and good manners, slanders against ACC such as "ACC does harassment only" or "thereis virus in the anecdote"will not be heard anymore.
"We need to establish ourselves as pure persons. Only then, this society will be freed from the scourge of corruption."
"We should admit our failure. If you do not accept problems, how will you solve it? We can learn from mistakes. Only then, our actions will be refined," the ACC chairman said.
The ACC boss said, "What our future generation will look like depends on how we – the present generation – are executing our responsibilities. Self-criticism – to look back at one's work again and again and to ask oneself – is needed to discharge one's responsibilities properly."
He also called upon all the ACC officials and employees to work together from the same level to implement the bold speeches made by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujbur Rahman against corruption.
ACC Commissioner Dr Mozammel Haque Khan, citing statistics, said the country surpassed Pakistan in most socio-economic indicators, except population growth.
"Corruption is the main obstacle to real development. So,wewill have to take a firm stand against it," he said.
ACC director generals Mohammad ZahirRaihan, Sayeed Mahbub Khan and AKM Sohail, Director Mohammad Golam Shahriar Chowdhury, Director (Chattogram Divisional Office) Mohammad Mahmud Hasan, ACC Sylhet Deputy Director Mohammad Noor-e-Alam, among others, also addressed the discussion.
