Hasnat Abdullah demands banning ISKCON as terrorist organisation
Also speaking on the occasion, Sarjis Alam said, "We want to clearly tell all ghosts [of India] that we have forced Hasina, who killed for 16 years, to flee the country. Making some petty ISKCON militants flee the country is a little issue.”
The Anti-discrimination Student Movement has called on authorities concerned to ban ISKCON by declaring it a terrorist organisation, alleging that it is trying to create "chaos in Bangladesh under the prescription of India".
The platform's Convener Hasnat Abdullah made the demand today (27 November) while addressing a rally in Tiger Pass square of Chattogram following the namaz-e-janaza of lawyer Saiful Islam Alif, who was killed during a protest over the jailing of former ISKCON leader Chinmoy Krishna Das yesterday.
On the occasion, he also demanded that those responsible for the death of Saiful be arrested within 24 hours.
The student leader said, "We have not forgotten how this ISKCON has grown into a militant organisation in the last 16 years with the support and patronage of Awami League and is now creating unrest in Bangladesh under the prescription of India as a partner of dictatorship.
Terming ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina as "India's Bubu", Hasnat said she will no longer have a place in Bangladesh.
"No matter how many conspiracies [she] hatches from India, we, the people of Bangladesh, will stop that conspiracy."
Stating that all religions will co-exist in the country, Hasnat said, "A Hindu will practice Hinduism. A Buddhist will practice Buddhism. A Christian will practice Christianity. We are united to protect the rights of all. But no extremist organisations, which operate under the pretext of religion, will not be given any place in Bangladesh."
Also speaking on the occasion, Sarjis Alam, general secretary of the July Shaheed Smriti Foundation and member of the Nagorik Committee, said, "Sheikh Hasina fled the country by stepping on blood. Now the supporters of Chinmoy are instigating [communal violence] by stepping on the same blood. Standing on that blood, the killer Hasina is instigating. Standing on that blood, the militant ISKCON is instigating. Standing on that blood, some ghosts of India are instigating.
"We want to clearly tell all ghosts that we have forced Hasina, who was killed for 16 years, to flee the country. Making some petty ISKCON militants flee the country is a little issue."
