DU to collaborate with Globe Biotech to develop vaccines, new meds
To this end, the two organisations signed a memorandum of understanding
Dhaka University (DU) will develop vaccines and research new medicines in collaboration with Globe Biotech Limited, a Bangladeshi biotech firm that produced the Covid-19 vaccine "Bangavax".
To this end, DU Treasurer, Professor Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, and Globe Biotech Limited Chairman, Md Harun-ur-Rashid, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on behalf of their respective sides on Monday, said Dr Mohammad Mohiuddin, senior manager, Quality and Regulatory, Globe Biotech.
Prof Dr Sitesh Chandra Bachar, dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy at DU, and Kakon Nag, chief executive officer of Globe Biotech, witnessed the signing of the agreement.
However, DU's Vice-Chancellor Md Akhtaruzzaman could not attend the event due to illness.
Professors of the Pharmacy and Science Department of Dhaka University, as well as directors and senior officials of Globe Biotech also attended the event.
In July 2022, Globe Biotech Limited, a Bangladeshi biotech firm, got final approval from the Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA) for clinical trials of its Covid-19 vaccine "Bangavax".
