New obstetrics, gynaecology fellows urged to prioritise ethics, compassion in practice
A recent felicitation ceremony for new FCPS fellows in Obstetrics and Gynaecology emphasised the importance of ethical practices and compassionate care in medical treatment.
The event, jointly organised by Orion Pharma Ltd and the Obstetrical and Gynaecological Society of Bangladesh (OGSB), was held today at the OGSB Hospital & IRCH in Dhaka.
Addressing the new fellows, Prof Dr Latifa Shamsuddin, a past president of OGSB, urged them to prioritise compassion and ethics in their practice, emphasising that a doctor's role extends beyond medical expertise, encompassing empathy and care for patients.
She also stressed the importance of continuous professional development through training, both locally and internationally.
Speaking at the event, Prof Dr Farhana Dewan, president of OGSB, recommended the judicious use of artificial intelligence as a tool to aid more learning. She emphasised the necessity of lifelong learning to keep pace with advancements in medical science.
Zareen Karim, managing director of Orion Pharma Ltd, highlighted the pressing need for more gynecologists in underserved areas of Bangladesh.
She pointed out, many women, particularly those in rural areas, face significant barriers to accessing quality healthcare due to factors such as poverty, lack of awareness, and societal stigma.
Zareen expressed optimism that the new FCPS fellows would contribute to addressing these disparities by providing accessible and affordable gynecological care.
She also reiterated Orion Pharma's commitment to improving healthcare in Bangladesh by manufacturing and marketing high-quality medications complying with global standards.
The event was attended by nearly 100 new FCPS fellows who shared their experiences and aspirations. They emphasised the dedication and hard work required to achieve this prestigious degree.
