High commissioner calls upon expatriates to send remittances legally
M Allama Siddiqui, Bangladesh High Commissioner to Australia, New Zealand and Fiji, called upon expatriate Bangladeshis to send remittances to the country legally and participate in the universal pension scheme.
The high commissioner made this call at an exchange meeting with expatriate Bangladeshis held at the Fiji National University on Sunday (24 September), reads a press release.
Legitimate remittances play an important role in the development of the country, including expatriate Bangladeshis and their families, he said.
Allama Siddiqui said the country will benefit from the universal pension scheme in the long run, including expatriate Bangladeshis. In this case, the state will guarantee monthly pension to the participants of the scheme along with proper utilisation of the money at the end of the specified period. The High Commissioner said that the capacity of Bangladesh has increased many times. Bangladesh has come a long way in various fields including infrastructure development and poverty alleviation. He requested the expatriates to follow the rules of their respective countries. Allama Siddiqui inaugurated the new website of Fiji Bangladesh Association on the occasion.
Fiji Bangladesh Association General Secretary Kabir Al Mamun spoke on the occasion and President of the Association and Fiji National University Professor Shaukat Ali spoke at the event. He said, Bangladeshi expatriates are spread all over the world with their own consciousness and identity. Everyone should be vigilant to protect the independence and national flag of Bangladesh.
More than 500 migrant workers were present at the exchange meeting organised by Bangladesh High Commission, Canberra in cooperation with Bangladesh Fiji Association.
Bangladesh High Commission Counselor (Labour and Welfare) Md Salahuddin presented a powerpoint on the pension scheme at the event.
