Home ministry has no authority to release Kaleda: Kamal

Clarifying that the Home Ministry has no authority to release BNP's imprisoned chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal today said the Law Ministry will take steps regarding an application submitted to his ministry seeking Khaleda's release.
"Khaleda's family submitted an application to the Home Ministry seeking her release. We sent the application to the Law Ministry for its legal opinion. They (Law Ministry) will take the next step," he said after inaugurating the Hajj Booth Service-2020 at the Passport Department at Agargaon in the city.
Responding to the application, Kamal said, the Home Ministry has no authority to release her. The process of releasing Khaleda Zia must go through legal procedure and move to the court, he added.
Presided over by Department of Immigration and Passports (DIP) Director General Major General Shakil Ahmed, Public Security Division's Senior Secretary Mostafa Kamal Uddin, Security Services Division Secretary Md Shahiduzzaman and Religious Affairs Secretary Md Nurul Islam were present in the inaugural function.
