JCI Dhaka Young distributes food to 230 sex workers
Each packet contains 10 kg rice, 2 kg lentils, 2 kg flour, 1 kg sugar and 1 litre oil
JCI (Junior Chamber International) Dhaka Young, a non-profit organisation, has distributed food among 230 sex workers at Daulatdia under Rajbari district.
The organisation, one of the most dynamic chapters of JCI Bangladesh, distributed the food items with the slogan "Manush Manusher Jonno".
Each packet contains 10 kg rice, 2 kg lentils, 2 kg flour, 1 kg sugar and 1 litre oil.
JCI Dhaka Young Executive Vice President Nazmul Hossain and General Legal Counsel Samia Rahman and Officer-in-Charge of Goalanda Police Station Ashikur Rahman were present during the distribution.
Doulatdia hosts the largest brothel in Bangladesh and has been closed since March due to the Covid-19 pandemic, changing the plight of the sex workers for the worse.
Nazmul Hossain said, "Sex workers in Bangladesh, like other informal sector workers, are experiencing hardships and severe loss of income. Barely surviving with one meal a day, most of them are struggling to keep their children and themselves alive amidst hunger and poverty."
