Youth beaten, hacked to death in Rajshahi
Meem died while undergoing treatment at around 10:30pm
A youth was beaten and hacked to death by unidentified people in Rajshahi today (27 October).
The deceased was identified as Meem, 25, the son of Abdul Momen from the Ramchandrapur area of the city.
Sources say the attackers left the injured person bloodied in front of the emergency department of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital around 9:30pm.
A hospital staffer immediately took him to the emergency department, where the on-duty doctors directed his admission to Ward No-2.
Meem died while undergoing treatment at around 10:30pm.
According to Meem's relatives, several drug dealers, including Rubel from the Panchabati area, beat him on suspicion of theft on the night of 6 September. When the stolen goods were recovered, it was proven that Meem had not committed the theft.
In retaliation, Meem later broke Rubel's leg and subsequently went into hiding. After receiving medical treatment, Rubel returned to the area and began searching for Meem.
On Saturday, when Meem appeared in public, Rubel's associates captured him in the Panchani field.
Mohammad Hemayetul Islam, additional police commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police, said the murder is linked to the earlier assault on suspicion of theft.
He added, "Six individuals have been detained for questioning in connection with the incident, while Rubel remains at large. The police have handed over the body to the family after an autopsy, and the process of filing a case regarding this incident is currently underway."
