The 'Sheikh Bari', a two-story building on Sher-e-Bangla Road in Khulna City, which is the home of five cousins of Sheikh Hasina, was demolished by bulldozers on Wednesday (5 February) night.
Around 9:00pm, a group of students gathered and started vandalising the house, our Khulna correspondent reports. Later, two bulldozers were brought there.
The demolishing coincided with the "Bulldozer Procession" called earlier on the day in opposition of Sheikh Hasina's speech, which was telecast around 9pm.
The Sheikh Bari was known for hosting political programmes, including the formation of committees of the Awami League and its associate organisations.
It housed Hasina's cousins – Sheikh Helal, Sheikh Jewel, Sheikh Sohel, Sheikh Rubel and Sheikh Belal.
Among them, Sheikh Helal and Sheikh Jewel were members of parliament.
Sheikh Helal's son Sheikh Tanmoy was also an MP.
