Marine student ‘electrocuted’ for complaining against ragging
Asif, a first year student, claimed that seniors at his university physically abused him from 9pm on Thursday till 4am on Friday
Asif, 17, a student of Bangladesh Institute of Marine Technology was physically abused by seniors who ragged him, said his father in a written complaint filed at the Bandar police station on Saturday.
Asif, a first year student, said that the seniors had made him drink water from the toilet and gave him electric shocks.
He complained that seniors at his university physically abused him from 9pm on Thursday till 4am on Friday, after he made a written complaint to the principal of the institute regarding a prior incident of ragging, which included doing various physical exercises and washing clothes.
Principal of the Institute, Sharifa Sultana said, "After receiving the news of the incident, I made arrangement for sending the student to the hospital. A nine-member investigation committee has been formed in this regard."
Assistant Sub-Inspector of Bandar Police Station Shamim rescued him from the spot and took him to Narayanganj General Hospital.
The accused students surrounded the office of the principal on Saturday afternoon in hopes of pressuring the principal to bring about a reconciliation between them and the victim.
Regarding this, Bandar Police Station Officer-In-Charge Rafiqul Islam said, proper legal action will be taken after an investigation.
