Maulana Abdullah Mohammad Hasan, president of the Bangladesh Farazi Movement, has stepped down from his post as Hefazat-e-Islam's " Nayeb-e-Ameer " citing various reasons, including the resort scandal of Hefazat-e-Islam's Joint Secretary General, Mamunul Haque.
He made the announcement at a press conference organised by the Bangladesh Farazi Movement at the National Press Club in the capital on Tuesday.
During the press conference, Abdullah Mohammad Hasan said that after the death of Allama Shah Ahmad Shafi, founder of Hifazat-e-Islam, there was a crisis of qualified leadership and the organisation broke into factions.
Abdullah said, "People from different parties and ideologies have infiltrated Hefazat-e-Islam and are trying to bring Hefazat to the forefront to advance their own political interests."
"To that end, they have been able to take control of Hefazat-e-Islam. It is the people of these controversial outsider organisations who have ignored the opinions of the majority of Hefazat-e-Islam's leaders and forced them to go on strike," added Abdullah.
According to him, Hefazat has become a platform for some individuals to implement their own agenda and it is the key reason for his resignation.
