Our main goal is to uphold law and order in Cox's Bazar by strengthening people's trust: DIG
"The police will work with maximum professionalism and be faster"
Chattogram Division Deputy inspector general of police (DIG) Md Anwar Hossain said, "We cannot guarantee that we will be able to do everything properly. But everyone has the ability to give the right advice in a good manner. If the law is enforced with professionalism, all the work will be done smoothly. It will build trust. Our main goal is to uphold law and order in Cox's Bazar by strengthening people's trust. Public welfare will be given priority during work. To do this, the cooperation of the media and people of all classes and professions is desirable."
The DIG said this at a briefing at Cox's Bazar Sadar Model Police Station on Wednesday.
The DIG said, "A new list of drug traffickers would be drawn up and strict action would be taken against them. Strict measures will be taken to curb drug smuggling at the border. The police force here have already been revamped in this regard."
DIG Anwar Hossain said, "The police will work with maximum professionalism and be faster. Although everyone is new to the district police, it is my belief that they will show their skills at work. And public welfare will be given priority during work."
The DIG said, "There were allegations that the same person used to be posted at one of the police stations in the district by rotation. This practice will not continue as long as I am in charge."
Prior to the media briefing, the DIG briefed the officers of all levels who joined the Cox's Bazar Sadar Model Police Station. Instructing all of them to perform their duties with the highest professionalism, he said, "A former army officer was shot dead at a checkpoint on Marine Drive. It is being reported as unprofessional behaviour as he was shot dead by police. Due to the extreme controversy over this incident, everyone in charge in Cox's Bazar has been transferred at once and a new team has come. The main goal is to strengthen people's confidence through professionalism. I believe that professionalism will be ensured if everyone behaves properly from their respective positions."
In response to questions from journalists, the new Superintendent of Police (SP) Md Hasanuzzaman said, "Drugs dealers will not be spared. The law will be enforced in this regard by looking at the old list and making a new list through investigation."
The SP said, "There would be maximum co-operation with those who come to the police for good deeds. But those who come to befriend the police with malicious intent, the police will be extremely strict against them. The message from me is that the door of Cox's Bazar police is completely closed for brokers."
DIG Anwar Hossain and SP Hasanuzzaman sought the cooperation and advice of all quarters in Cox's Bazar.
Cox's Bazar Sadar Model Police Station OC Sheikh Munir-ul-Gias, OC-Investigation Bipul Chandra Dey, OC-Operation Selim Uddin and city police outpost in-charge inspector Anwar Hossain were present at the time.
