PBI starts investigating Allama Shafi's alleged murder

The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) started an investigation into thealleged murder of Allama Ahmed Shafi, the former Amir of Hefazat-e-Islam.
On Tuesday, a PBIteam, led by Superintendent of Police (SP) Iqbal Hossain visited the Hathazari Madrasa, where they spoke to several people, including Allama Junayed Babunangari, incumbent Amir of Hefazat.
SP Iqbal latertold reporters that PBI had visited the spot as part of their investigation following a court order.

"We've spoken to a number of people. Butnothing more can be said since this is an ongoing investigation. However, we are working to submit the investigation report within the time set by the court."
Meanwhile, when asked by reporters, Babunagari refused to comment on the matter.
Saying that they have cooperated with the investigators, he said, "I can't say anything. We have already made our statements during the press conference."
On 17 December, Md Moin Uddin, brother-in-law of Ahmed Shafi, filed a case with a Chattogram court against 36 peopleover Shafi's death. People named in the case include Joint Secretary General of Hefazat-e-Islam Mamunul Haque.
The case claims that Ahmad Shafi was the victim of a pre-meditated murder.
Meanwhile, on 23 December, Junayed Babunagari claimed that the former Hefajat Amir had died of natural causes and demanded the withdrawal of the case.
Shah Ahmad Shafi, the top leader of Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh and long-serving director general of Chattogram Hathazari Madrasa, died on 18 September at the age of 103.
