After 23 hours, prime mover and trailer workers in Chattogram have withdrawn their strike.
The decision came following a meeting with the district administration around 9pm today (February 5), said Md Kayes Chowdhury, joint general secretary of the Chattogram District Prime Mover and Trailer Workers' Union.
The workers had gone on strike and blocked the road in front of Chattogram Port in protest of a clash at Faujdarhat's DC Park in Sitakunda upazila, disrupting the transportation of import and export goods at Chattogram Port.
They had placed four demands before authorities in response to the incident.
Kayes Chowdhury said, "Our demands have been accepted. Our leaders will provide a briefing, and operations will resume accordingly."
He further added, "The district administration has assured financial assistance for our injured workers. DC Park will remain closed, and we have been advised to file an official complaint regarding the arrests. Authorities have promised that the arrests will take place within two to five hours of filing the complaint."
Earlier on Tuesday night, the workers went on strike following a clash between the workers and staff of DC Park over a parking dispute in front of the park where a month long flower festival is going on.
