Transport strike cripples nation
Many busy highways have been almost deserted in the wake of the ongoing nationwide transport strike, which is causing immense suffering to commuters.
The Dhaka-Tangail highway has seen only a few vehicles since this morning, reports our correspondent from the spot. Commuters were seen waiting on bus stops, but no buses were in sight.

In Narayanganj, protest processions were brought out at Signboard and Kachpur points on Dhaka-Chittagong highway and Chashara of Narayanganj by transport workers demanding amendments to the new law.
The blocked the highway and stopped plying of all vehicles in the area.
Meanwhile in Khulna, plying of all buses have remained suspended for the third consecutive day.
Protestors agreed to operate buses on internal routes from Wednesday morning, following a meeting with the District Administration on Tuesday.
However, the decision was not implemented.
The strike has also gripped Patuakhali as commuters were seen waiting at bus stops.
Buses on all routes have been stopped in the district in the wake of the ongoing transport strike.
They complained to pay a higher fare and use alternate modes to reach their destination.
Moreover in Mymensingh, plying of buses in all routes have remained suspended in Mymensingh since Tuesday. No buses have left Maskanda bus stop in the district.
Although local buses were plying yesterday, transport workers have halted local bus operations since this morning.
On Wednesday, morning a few buses left Brahmanbaria for Dhaka.
As soon as they reached Bhairab, passengers had to get down and the buses returned to Brahmanbaria, as protestors blocked their way.
Some buses had to return the ticket price to passengers as they have been barred from plying.
