Street child raped, tortured after being kidnapped by couple from Kamalapur Railway Station
Police arrested the couple after locals beat up the husband and rescued the child
Police arrested a couple in Cumilla today (9 October) in a case filed over allegations of raping a street child after kidnapping the child from Kamalapur Railway Station in Dhaka.
Locals beat up the husband, Sumon, and rescued the child yesterday (8 October) after neighbours noticed sounds of torture coming from the couple's house, said Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohinul Islam.
The neighbours later filed a case with Kotwali Police Station, he added.
According to the case statement, Suman and his wife Rina allegedly abducted the six-year-old child from Kamalapur Railway Station on 13 September and brought the child to their home in Cumilla's railway quarter.
Sumon was accused of raping and torturing the child several times when his wife was not at home.
OC Mohinul said Sumon confessed to the rape when the local mob beat him up.
Further legal action against the couple is ongoing, he added.
