Thakurgaon-1 lawmaker denied petrol due to strike
People are suffering due to the strike as it started without any prior announcement
Petrol Pump workers refused to provide diesel to the vehicle carrying Ramesh Chandra Sen, member of the parliament of Thakurgaon-1 constituency, amid their indefinite strike, enforced to press home their 15-point charter of demands.
The incident took place at Chowdhury Filling Station in Thakurgaon around 10am in the morning while Ramesh Chandra Sen, also a presidium member of the ruling Awami League, was returning to Dhaka after completing his official tour in the district.
"We have halted providing all types of fuel as per our owners' directives and we do not know how long the strike will continue," said Otol Ray, a worker of the filling station.
"We have placed our demands earlier but the government did not meet those despite its assurance," said Enamul Haque, president of Bangladesh Petrol Pump Owners' Association, Thakurgaon district.
"The indefinite strike will be continued until our demands are met," he added.
Meanwhile, people are suffering due to the strike as it started without any prior announcement.
Petrol Pump and Tank Lorry Owners-Workers Unity Council enforced indefinite strike in three divisions - Khulna, Rajshahi and Rangpur - from this morning to press home their demands including increasing commission on oil sale.
