Trial run at maximum 120 km/h speed conducted on Jamuna Railway Bridge
This higher speed limit will allow for faster travel time
The trial run of trains on the newly built Jamuna Railway Bridge over the Jamuna River with a maximum speed of 120 km per hour was conducted successfully today (5 January).
Project Director of Jamuna Railway Bridge Al Fattah Md Masudur Rahman told The Business Standard this evening that test runs on the Jamuna Railway Bridge have been ongoing since 25 November.
"These trials have involved trains operating at varying speeds, starting at 40 km/h and gradually increasing to a maximum speed of 120 km/h today. Tomorrow, trains will continue to operate at this speed as part of the ongoing testing process to identify and rectify any potential issues," he said.
The official further stated that a Bangladesh Railway auditor will be present tomorrow to observe the trial runs.
"Upon successful inspection and approval by the auditor, passenger trials will commence. To facilitate these trials, the connection between the existing railway bridge and the new bridge will be established," he added.
Masudur Rahman said while the normal operating speed on the bridge will be 100 km/h, the maximum speed limit is 120 km/h.
He said this higher speed limit will allow for faster travel time whenever necessary.
The official opening of the bridge is likely to take place sometime in January if no further issues are encountered during the passenger trials, he added.
