Two elderly women died of burn injuries at RMCH

Two elderly women died at Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH) on early Thursday, as they sustained burn injuries while trying to warm themselves up.
The deceased are Arifa Begum of Rohomot Para and Monwara Begum of Kotayali Para of Rangpur town.
Dr MA Hamid Polash of Burn and Plastic Surgery department said, "Both women succumbed to burn injuries which they accidentally received from the fire lit to stave off the cold."

He added, "Seven more died of burn injuries earlier in the hospital. In the last 20 days, 43 people were admitted to the burn unit and currently 31 such patients are being treated here. Among them, six are in critical condition and three left after receiving treatment."
According to the Met office, the lowest temperature of Rangpur and Panchagarh's Tetulia has been recorded 13 and 9.8 degrees Celsius respectively today.
Deputy director of RMCH Dr Md Shahadat Hossain said, "More than 600 patients suffering from winter related diseases are still admitted here. In the last two months, 28 children died of cold related illness at the hospital."
Rangpur Divisional Health Director Mostofa Khaled Ahmed said, "A total of 722 medical teams have been set up in hospitals throughout the Rangpur division to treat people with winter related illness."
"More than 22,000 people including children suffering from cold related diseases took treatment in different hospitals of the division from last November to January 9," he added.
