Two suspended cops remanded in Abu Sayed murder case
On 16 July during a clash between students and the police at Begum Rokeya University, Abu Sayed, a student of the English Department at the university, was killed by police gunfire.
Two suspended police officials have been placed on a four-day remand in connection with the killing of Abu Sayed during the student-led quota reform movement in Rangpur on 16 July.
Of the accused, assistant sub-inspector Md Amir Hossain was posted at Tajhat Police Station while constable Sujan Chandra Roy at Rangpur Metropolitan Police Lines.
The two were brought to the Rangpur Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court-2 on Tuesday (10 September), under tight security.
The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) sought a five-day remand, but after the hearing, Judge Asaduzzaman granted four days, PBI Superintendent of Police Zakir Hossain said.
On Monday, a team of the metropolitan police arrested the two and later handed them over to PBI. Both were suspended on 3 August for their alleged involvement in the killing, according to the BSS.
Abu Sayed, a student of the English Department at Begum Rokeya University, was killed by police gunfire during a clash between students and the police.
On 18 August, his elder brother filed a murder case with the Court of Rangpur Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Raju Ahmed.
