Water Resources Ministry to start eviction drive on 8 April

The Water Resources Ministry has changed its date of fresh eviction drive on smaller rivers, canals and water bodies to 8 April that was schedule to launch on 31 March.

He also directed deputy commissioners and members of Water Development and Management Committee to take necessary measures in this connection.
The senior secretary said, "We have gained a significant achievement in eviction drive. Tree plantation and digging activities will be started soon in the recovered lands."
Additionally, the destitute and landless people who were affected by river erosion will be rehabilitated in another place. The land recovered can be given for government shelter projects in different areas, the official added.
The initial eviction drive started with a target of removing 45,000 illegal establishments across the country. Of them, 53 percent has so far been recovered.
Additional Secretary (development) of the ministry Rokon Ud Daula, Water Development Board General Director Wahed Uddin Chowdhury, Additional Secretary (Admin) Alam Ara Begum, and Project Director Asafuddaula were present at the meeting.
