So far, nine Bangladeshis died of coronavirus in New York
Five Bangladeshis have died of the novel coronavirus in two hospitals of New York within a day. Among them, three are female and two are male.
Three of the Bangladeshi who died in Elmhurst Hospital of the city were aged 60, 70 and 42 while two of the dead in Plainview Hospital were aged 60 and 70.
One of the males from Elmhurst Hospital, hailing from Sonaimuri upazila of Noakhali district, lived in Brooklyn. Another male who died at the same hospital was from Moulavibazar district. He lived in Asteria in the US.
Two more deceased hailed from Rangpur and the capital's Mohammadpur area. They used to live in West Bay Shore of Long Island and Elmhurst respectively.
Relatives of the deceased told The Business Standard that the hospitals in New York take two to three days to hand over the dead bodies of the deceased, which is longer than before.
So far, nine Bangladeshis died of coronavirus in New York.
Mayor of the New York City Bill de Blasio earlier said that the coronavirus epidemic may get worse in New York due to the shortage of medical equipment.
"The coronavirus epidemic may get worse in the next ten days. If we can't manage to get more ventilators, more people will die," he said.
